Hire WordPress Developer Kolkata: A Checklist and Decision Guide

wordpress_developer_checklist_techpenta_blog_imageIf you’re about to Hire WordPress Developer Kolkata, you have plenty of options — which is exactly the problem. The hiring decision is reversible, but reversing it is expensive. This is a short, practical guide for getting it right the first time.

Skip the marketing speak. Use this as a checklist when you’re shortlisting, briefing, and signing off. We’ve added the questions we’d ask if we were buying our own service.

Step 1 — Define what you actually need

Before you contact anyone, write down:

  • Why a new (or rebuilt) site is needed — leads, sales, credibility, all three?
  • Who you want to reach — the more specific, the better
  • What success looks like in 12 months — traffic, enquiries, revenue?
  • What you absolutely will not change — branding, domain, key URLs

A clear brief shortens the build by weeks.

Step 2 — Shortlist sensibly

Three to five names is plenty. You’re looking for people who:

  • Have built sites in your size and shape, recently
  • Show real WordPress depth, not generic web work
  • Are comfortable talking about SEO, speed and security in the same sentence
  • Communicate quickly, clearly, in writing

At Techpenta we usually try to disqualify ourselves on the first call if we’re not the right match. It saves everyone time.

Step 3 — Test the technical depth

Three useful questions:

  • “What’s your approach to Core Web Vitals on a content-heavy WordPress site?” — listen for specifics, not buzzwords
  • “How do you keep a WooCommerce checkout fast and PCI-friendly?” — checks they’ve actually shipped one
  • “What’s your update and backup cadence for clients?” — checks they think long-term

Step 4 — Look at live work, not just screenshots

Open three of their live sites on your phone, on a slow connection. The real story is right there — speed, layout, ease of action.

Step 5 — Ask about post-launch life

What happens the day after launch? The week after? The year after? You want answers in writing — SLAs, response times, included hours, what triggers a billable change.

Step 6 — Watch for red flags

  • “We’ll send a quote tomorrow” — and tomorrow becomes never
  • Fixed price quoted before they’ve seen the brief
  • Vague answers to specific technical questions
  • Heavy reliance on a single page builder, with no fallback
  • Reluctance to share recent client references

Step 7 — Choose a partner, not a vendor

You’re hiring people you’ll talk to weekly for a quarter, then quarterly for years. Comfort and trust matter as much as code. The agencies you keep are usually the ones that feel like an extension of your own team.

Why Techpenta usually fits

We’re not the right choice for the cheapest, fastest possible build. We are the right choice if you want a serious WordPress site, built carefully, that you’ll still be happy with in three years.

The Kolkata advantage — strong skill, sensible rates, clear communication — is real, and we lean into it. The result is a partnership that tends to last well beyond the first invoice.
